The construction of the GARR will be started in March 2018
Investors are ready to invest in the project more than 150 billion tenge.
The construction of the Great Almaty Ring Road will be started in March 2018. This was reported to the correspondent of MIA “Kazinform” by Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Roads of the MID of the RoK Satzhan Ablaliyev. “Construction of Great Almaty Ring Road will be carried out on the basis of public-private partnership. At the moment Investors from Turkey and Korea have been found. They are ready to invest in construction of this road more than 150 billion tenge. The signing of the agreement is already coming to the end. Construction will be started in March”, – said Satzhan Ablaliyev after an expanded meeting of Senate Committee on Economic Policy, Innovation Development and Entrepreneurship.
Initially, construction of the GARR was estimated at 350 billion KZT, but the cost of the Great Almaty Ring Road construction was re-estimated in the Ministry for Investments and Development of the RoK. At present, cost is 150 billion KZT. Let us note that GARR is one of the most long-awaited and complex objects, the first general plan which was adopted in 2002.
Length of the future road is 66km, it passes through territory of three regions in Almaty oblast: Karasay, Ili and Talgar. It was assumed that it will be 6-lane road with speed 140 km/h, its route will cross 19 roads and 2 raiways. It is planned to build 7 traffic junctions, 13 bridges and overpasses throughout the GARR. According to experts, putting the road into operation will significantly improve ecological situation in Almaty, saving the city from many kilometers of traffic jams. It is assumed that all transit cargo and passenger transport, entering in the metropolis will bypass the city on this round road.
Meanwhile, due to the lack of finance in the state budget, construction of this important infrastructure facility was postponed for an indefinite time and again. In 2006, the Government included GARR in the list of projects proposed for implementation under the concession mechanism. Since then, several tenders have taken place, which did not reveal the company-concessionaire.
